Vote 'Yes' for Higher Education

Jack Lassiter
Chancellor, University of Arkansas at Monticello

On Dec. 13, you will have the opportunity to vote on two important issues.

One concerns the ability of the state highway department to secure funds through bonds (Referred Question 1). The second issue is the Arkansas Higher Education Technology and Facility Improvement Act of 2005 (Referred Question 2).

Referred Question 2 will provide additional funds for capital improvements and technology/infrastructure upgrades on every higher education campus in Arkansas. The Higher Education Technology and Facility Bond program will provide UAM with approximately $4.1 million to purchase and install administrative/academic software that will replace the POISE system, to connect this campus to the E-corridor, and to improve facilities at all three campuses. There will be no new taxes or additional annual debt service required for the Arkansas Higher Education Technology and Facility Improvement Act of 2005 (Referred Question 2).

You can continue to early vote for this election through Dec. 12. You can early vote at the court house with identification. As with all elections, an employee's work schedule can be adjusted with your supervisor to allow you the opportunity to vote. I encourage you to exercise your opportunity to vote in this important election.

If you choose to vote on Election Day, Dec. 13, we have been notified that the polling place for Monticello will be at the First United Methodist Church. This will be the only polling place in Monticello.

Please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions in this matter.
