Managing Editor The University of Arkansas at Monticello's Student Health Services provided flu shots for $15 each Nov. 7 and Dec. 2 in the Green room of the Gibson University Center. Students who missed the first opportunity could attend the second round of flu shots. According to Terri Richardson, director of student health services, over 80 shots were given Nov. 7, making a total of over 100 shots provided this semester. "National public health sources predict that this will be a pretty bad year for the flu," Richardson said. "Thankfully, we have vaccinated 113 UAM community members (students, faculty and staff)." Currently, the Drew County Health Unit has vaccines available for $15. Richardson said there was not an actual shortage of flu shots this year, but there was, however, a delay which caused a later delivery of the first group of vaccines. "The other 2,900 (students) should still consider taking a ‘flu shot'
to protect themselves during this year's flu season which goes all the way
through the Spring," she said. For more information contact Student Health Services at 870-460-1051 or the Drew County Health Unit at 870-367-6234. Have a comment? Please e-mail us. |
