African-American Alumni of the University of Arkansas at Monticello recently made a $6,000 contribution to the Classie Jones-Green African American Alumni Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship fund is named in honor of long-time UAM campus nurse Classie Jones-Green of Pine Bluff. The $6,000 contribution brought the total funding for the Jones Green Scholarship to $12,500. When the scholarship fund reaches $15,000, it will be endowed and will then be used to create scholarships to deserving students.

“We are very grateful for the continuing generosity of the African-American Alumni and their decision to honor Classie Jones-Green,” Chancellor Jack Lassiter said. “Mrs. Green is a much-loved figure to several generations of UAM graduates and it is only fitting that she be honored in a way that will create educational opportunities for young people.”

Those present at the presentation included Jones-Green, UAM African-American Alumni President Shay Gillespie of Monticello and Al Peer of Monticello, representing the alumni of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
