Media Relations Two endowments honoring a retired faculty member and the current dean of the School of Business at the University of Arkansas at Monticello have been received by the UAM Foundation Fund. Friends, family and former faculty colleagues of Jim Huey have presented a $15,000 endowment to generate scholarships to be presented to students in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. A second endowment, presented by Dr. Louis James, dean of the UAM School of Business, will create scholarships for business students. James’ gift was matched by the UAM Foundation Fund through the Foundation’s employee matching gift program. An assistant professor of biology, Huey was a member of the UAM faculty from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Henderson State University and a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota. Dr. John Annulis, dean of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, credited Huey for helping develop the positive reputations of UAM’s pre-medicine and science programs.
James became dean of the School of Business when he joined the UAM faculty in 2003. A native of Kansas City, Mo., James holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and business administration from William Jewell College, a master of arts degree in economics from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in economics and public finance, also from the University of Kansas. He completed additional graduate study at the Loyola University School of Law and is a former member of the Kansas City Board of Trade. “On behalf of the Foundation, I am extremely pleased to accept these generous gifts,” said UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter. “Endowed scholarships are a lasting legacy for the donor and create opportunities for students for generations to come. I’m especially pleased that part of the funds for these endowments came from our employee matching gift program.
