The national chapter of Sigma Tau Delta has announced several scholarships, a study abroad and an internship program available to the local active members of the UAM Sigma Tau Delta English honor society chapter.
Sigma Delta Tau offers the following $2,000 scholarships: the Junior Scholarships, in honor of B. Nelson James, a long-time Sigma Tau Delta executive secretary; the Senior Scholarships, in honor of Eva Bell McLine, past Southern Regent and society historian; and the Graduate Scholarships, in honor of Edwin L. Stockton Jr., a past-president who served over 18 years.
The Sigma Delta Tau also offers the Henry Regnery Endowed Scholarship worth $2,500. The student must be an active junior, senior or graduate student at UAM.
The $2,000 Study Abroad Scholarships are available from January to December 2005. Applicants must submit their paperwork by Oct. 30.
Sigma Tau Delta will help arrange one of several internships at the Regnery Publishing offices in Washington, D.C. where interns will experience virtually all aspects of publishing nonfiction books about politics, current affairs, history and other subjects. Students must apply for spring 2005 internships by midnight Oct. 30, for summer 2005 internships by Jan. 30, 2005, and for fall 2005 internships by May 30, 2005.
The local chapter will be responsible for nominating one active junior, senior or graduate student for each of the scholarships, study aboard and internship programs, UAM Sigma Tau Delta president, Jaime Sweeney said. Only active members may apply.
