On the Docket Through April 2 – The Rodeo Team hosts its first intercollegiate rodeo at Hestand Stadium in Pine Bluff. Admission for UAM students, faculty and staff will be $5 with a current school ID. Events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway roping, goat tying and barrel racing. April 2 – Phi Beta Sigma will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. For more information, contact a member of Phi Beta Sigma. April 2-3 – The baseball team will travel to the University of Central Arkansas to compete in a three-game series beginning Saturday at noon. April 2-3 – The softball team will travel to the University of Central Arkansas to compete in a three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday and a 1 p.m. game Sunday. April 3 – at 2 a.m. when daylight savings time begins. April 4-8 – Academic Excellence Week featuring Alpha Chi's Academic Olympics. Initial rounds of competition will take place April 5 beginning at 12:40 p.m. in the MCB. Students advancing to the final rounds will compete again on April 15 at 12:40 p.m. in the MCB. Students participating will compete in their undergraduate field of study. Current freshmen and sophomores who have not yet declared a major may choose to compete in the General Studies division. First place winner will receive free tuition for the 2005-2006 academic year. Second place winner will receive a semester’s tuition for the 2005-2006 academic year. Third place winner will receive a $200 bookstore credit. The event will be open to all undergraduate students who have not yet been awarded a bachelor’s degree. April 4-15 – Pre-registration for fall 2005 classes. Mark your calendars so that you can take advantage of this opportunity to sign up for the classes you need. There is no additional charge for pre-registering, and most students have until May 20 to finalize/pay for Summer I, June 24 to finalize/pay for Summer II, and August 15 to finalize/pay for fall. April 6 – The a class and receive a “W” on your transcript. You may still drop classes after April 6; however, the instructor will be required to assign a grade for each one. If the grade is passing, a “W” will be posted. If the grade is failing, an “F” will be posted. Grades of “W” have no effect on the GPA. However, dropping classes may have consequences for student athletes and students on financial aid. Students are encouraged to visit with the appropriate personnel before making class drops. For Spring 2005 the very last day to drop a class or withdraw from the University is Friday, April 29. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. FAFSA provides federal student aid to qualifying individuals. Gather your 2004 U.S. Income Tax Return, W2s, and U.S. Dept. of Education PIN before you begin the application process. (Parental income information and PIN will also be required for dependent students.) After entering the FAFSA Web site, you have the option to print a pre-application worksheet. The worksheet and application are available in both English and Spanish. If you want to be considered for a Pell Grant, SEOG, Stafford Loan, PLUS Loan, Federal Work Study, Arkansas State Grant, etc., apply today! Application for Summer 2005 Financial Aid -- Eligibility for summer aid will be determined using 2004-05 FAFSA data. In order to receive aid for the summer, a student must have eligibility remaining for the 2004-05 academic year and be pre-registered for summer classes. Students who received Pell Grant funds for full-time enrollment during the Fall and Spring terms will not have remaining eligibility for Pell Grant funds for the summer. In order to receive a Stafford Loan for summer, students must be enrolled at least half-time (undergradate-6 hours; graduate-3 hours; technical-180 clock hours) and have remaining loan eligibility within annual Federal loan limits for their grade level.
