The University of
Arkansas-Monticello recently awarded
scholarships to high school seniors expected to
attend UAM next fall. The following Achievement
Scholarship winners receive full tuition, fees
and room for a maximum of eight semesters,
excluding summer terms.
- Kristen
Aldridge of Star City High School is the
daughter of Donna Thrower of Star City. She is
editor of the yearbook, president of the Spanish
Club, president of the Speech Club, National
Honor Society president, Math Club president,
and a member of the Art Club and Library Club.
- Kimberly
Collins of Drew Central High School is the
daughter of Larry and Sherry Collins of
Monticello. She is president of the Drew Central
Student Council, senior class secretary,
president of Future Business Leaders of America,
vice president of the Science Club and the Water
Education Team, secretary of the Spanish Club
and reporter for the National Honor Society. She
is also a member of Students for Christ, the
Library Club, the Drew Central Literary
Committee, a Project 3-D Scholar, the National
Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among American High
School Students.
- Shanna
Gibbs of Liberty-Eylau High School is the
daughter of Mark and Charlotte Gibbs of
Texarkana, Texas. She is a member of the
National Honor Society and Distributive
Education Clubs of America, and is active in
soccer, karate, Junior Achievement, dance and
Habitat for Humanity.

Pooree of Star City High School is the daughter
of Randall and Stephanie Pooree of Star City.
She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, National Honor Society, Art Club,
Speech Club, Rapid Response, Mu Alpha Theta, Environmental
and Spatial Technology Lab and the
softball team.
- Hannah
Russell of Camden Fairview High School is the
daughter of Larry and Teresa Russell of Camden,
Ark. She is editor of the yearbook and a member
of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society,
Science Club and Key Club.
- Robert
W. Shifflet of Drew Central High School is the
son of Henry Shifflett.
- Danielle
Thomas of Vilonia High School is the daughter of
Phyllis Ormsby of Vilonia, Ark., and the late
Roy Thomas. Her high school activities include
Beta Club, FBLA, Spanish Club, band, Mu Alpha
Theta and yearbook editor.
- Nikita
Watson of James Bowie High School is the
daughter of John and Angelia Walker of Austin,
Texas. Her high school activities include
basketball, cross country, bowling, choir, the
National Honor Society and FCA.

Scholarship winners receive tuition and fees for
a maximum of eight semesters, excluding summer
terms.
- Kerry
Blakemore of Winnsboro High School is the son of
Andrew and Robin Ivery of Winnsboro, Texas. He
is a member of the football and basketball teams
as well as the National Honor Society, Spanish
Club, Family Career Community Leaders of America
and the marching, concert and jazz bands.
- Allison
Leann Ferrell of Hermitage High School is the
daughter of Eddie and Angie Ferrell of
Hermitage, Ark. Her high school activities
include serving as the football team manager and
membership in the Beta Club, Student Council,
yearbook staff, Math Club, Spanish Club and
Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
She is also a member of the basketball and
softball teams and is active in the National FFA
Organization.
- Christopher
Gibbins of Watson Chapel High School is the son
of David and Leeann Gibbins of Pine Bluff, Ark.
His high school activities include membership in
the Beta Club and serving as manager of the
Watson Chapel football team.

Hall of Abiding Faith Christian School is the
daughter of William and Kim Hall of Crossett.
She is president of the Student Council and
active on the yearbook staff and Journalism
Club. She served as school mascot as a junior
and was chairman of the Homecoming Committee.

Henley of Star City High School is the daughter
of Rodger and Marsha Henley of Star City. She is
a member of the EAST Lab, Spanish Club, Speech
Club, National Honor Society, FCA, First
Priority and the Rocket staff.
- Britney
McRae of Monticello High School is the daughter
of Craig and Sissy McRae of Monticello. She is
the senior class secretary and a member of the
National Beta Club, National Honor Society,
Crown Club, French Club, Who’s Who Among
American High School Students, pom squad and the
Monticello High School cross country and
softball teams.
- Hallie
Nutt of Fordyce High School is the daughter of
Henry Nutt and Scott and Donna Hart of Fordyce.
Her high school activities include membership in
the Beta Club, Science Club, FBLA, Honor Roll,
yearbook editor and Medical Applications of
Science for Health.
- Clark
Roberts of Crossett High School is the son of
Mike and Carol Roberts of Crossett. He is a
member of the Beta Club, Health Occupational
Students of America, Future Educators of
America, National Honor Society, Foreign
Language Honor Society, Vision 20/20 and the
tennis team.
- Malorie Sipes of Rison High School
is the daughter of Terry and Jennifer Sipes of
Rison, Ark. Her high school activities include
serving as senior class secretary, president of
FCCLA, secretary of FBLA, vice president of the
Art Club and secretary of the Beta Club. She is
also a cheerleader, Girls’ State delegate and a
member of the Drama Club, Spanish Club, Science
Club, and track and softball teams.
- Tamara
Sipes of Warren High School is the daughter of
Jerry and Angela McGhan of Warren. She is a
member of the choir, girl’s ensemble, Teens in
Action, Who’s Who Among American High School
Students, the Mole Club, National Honor Society
and the Junior Rotarians.
- Julianna
Smith of Warren High School is the daughter of
Ramona Smith and the late Mark Smith of Warren.
She is a cheerleader, a member of the softball
and track teams, a homecoming maid, a delegate
to Girls’ State, a Junior Rotarian and a member
of Who’s Who Among American High School
Students. She is also president of the National
Honor Society, senior class treasurer, Student
Council secretary, and a member of the Beta
Club, FBLA, Spanish Club, Future Teachers of
America, Art Club and Health Occupation Students
of America.

Stone is a senior at Texas High School and the
daughter of Daniel Stone of Overton, Texas.
- Justin
Weeks of Dodd City High School is the son of
Nick and Celia Weeks of Dodd City, Texas. He is
a member of the golf team and a two-time
qualifier for the state tournament, as well as a
two-time all-district performer in basketball, a
regional qualifier in tennis and a member of
DARE Peer Leadership.
- Amber
Wells of Drew Central High School is the
daughter of Timothy and Rosemary Wells of
Monticello. She is a member of the National
Honor Society, Project 3-D, Beta Club, Spanish
Club, Drama Club, Science Club, WET Team, FBLA,
FFA and FCCLA.
- Brian
Young of Hamburg High School is the son of Lisa
Young of Portland, Ark.
- William
Young of Woodlawn High School is the son of Bill
and Beverly Young of Warren. His high school
activities include membership in the Beta Club,
FCA, Foreign Language Club, and the basketball
and football teams.
The following Valedictorian
Scholarship winner receives tuition for up to 15
hours for a maximum of eight semesters,
excluding summer terms.
- Blain
Pearce of Delta High School is the son of
Douglas and Carline Pearce of Watson, Ark. His
high school activities include membership in the
Beta Club, Art Club, FCCLA, Math and Science
Club, and FFA. He was selected to Who’s Who
Among American High School Students, played on
the Delta High School baseball team and received
the Delta High School Academic Excellence Award.
The following Leadership
Scholarship winners receive partial tuition for
a maximum of eight semesters, excluding summer
terms.
- Timothy
Boykin of Hermitage High School is the son of
Rodney and Rita Boykin of Hermitage, Ark. His
high school activities include FFA, Beta Club,
football, basketball and baseball.
- Joseph
Hall of Junction City High School is the son of
Ronnie and Belinda Hall of El Dorado. His high
school activities include football, baseball,
4-H Shooting Sports and FBLA. He was also named
to the Principal’s List and has received the
Presidential Freedom Scholarship for Community
Service.

Gary and Candy Hillis of Monticello. He is a
three-year letterman in football, track and

Holman of Abiding Faith Christian School is the
son of Nathan and Karen Holman of Crossett. He
is a member of the Beta Club, Honor Roll,
Student Council and Who’s Who Among American
High School Students, and he played football and
basketball.
- Joseph
McCorkle of East Poinsett High School is the son
of Joey and Lorrie McCorkle of Tyronza, Ark. His
high school activities include National Honor
Society, Student Council president, FFA, Math
and Science Club, Arkansas High School Rodeo and
Rope America.
- Matthew
McDaniel of Dermott High School is the son of
Danny and Beth McDaniel of Dermott, Ark. He
received the All-American Scholar Award, was a
nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman
Award and is a member of Who’s Who Among
American High School Students, FBLA, FCCLA and
FCA. He is also president of the Beta Club, vice
president of the Student Council, and a member
of the football and baseball teams.
- Kirby
Stringfellow of McGehee High School is the
daughter of Kirby Stringfellow and Cynthia
Westmoreland of Arkansas City, Ark. She received
the Presidential Education Award, the American
Legion Good Citizenship Award, participated in
the U.S. Achievement Academy, and served as
president of the Art Club and a member of the
Beta Club, FTA, Who’s Who Among American High
School Students and the National Honor Roll.
- Meredith
Woolley of Woodlawn High School is the daughter
of David and Jan Woolley of Rison, Ark. She is a
member of the Beta Club, yearbook staff, FCA,
Foreign Language Club, choir, Who’s Who Among
American High School Students, a Girls’ State
delegate and a cheerleader.

Gorman of Hampton High School is the son of Dean
and Marcy Gorman of Hampton, Ark. He is a member
of the Beta Club, FFA, and the baseball and
football teams.
- Kendra
Greene of Monticello High School is the daughter
of Oscar and Brenda Greene of Monticello. She is
a member of the National Honor Society, National
Honor Roll, Beta Club, band and Who’s Who Among
American High School Students.
- Lindsay
Jacks of Drew Central High School is the
daughter of David and Kim Jacks of Monticello.
She is a member of the National Honor Society,
Science Club, Library Club, FBLA, FCA, Drama
Club, Spanish Club, choir and madrigals. She was
also the captain of the Drew Central
cheerleaders and the Drew Central High School
homecoming queen.
- Laci
Kellum of Drew Central High School is the
daughter of David and Kathy Kellum of
Monticello. She is a member of the Science Club,
Drama Club, Spanish Club, Crown Club, Library
Club, choir, madrigals, National Honor Society,
National Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among American
High School Students.
- Shannon
Kinney of Crossett High School is the daughter
of Buddy and Marty Kinney of Crossett. Her high
school activities include serving as president
of FBLA, treasurer of the National Honor Society
and Foreign Language Honor Society as well as
membership in HOSA and Future Educators of
America.

Montgomery of Warren High School is the son of
Bill and Linda Montgomery of Warren. He is a

James and Sherry Turbeville of Grapevine, Ark.
His high school activities include football,
SHIP Program and the Beta Club.

Vaughn of Liberty-Eylau High School is the son
of George and Dianne Vaughn of Texarkana, Texas.
He was a member of both the football and
baseball teams at Liberty-Eylau.

Arthur Walmsley and Karen McPherson of Grady,
Ark. He is a member of FFA, the National Honor

Wilkerson of Dumas High School is the daughter
of James and Mary Wilkerson. Her high school
activities include basketball, softball and
tennis as well as membership in the Library

Stephens High School, a transfer from Southern
Arkansas Tech, and son of Donald and Robin Baugh
of Stephens, Ark. His activities at SAU-Tech
included serving as a Student Ambassador and
president of the Baptist College Ministry.
- Stacy
Mitchell is a graduate of Fordyce High School
and is transferring from Southern Arkansas
University-Tech. She is the daughter of Marshall
and Vera Brazil of Fordyce. She is married to
Tabeyon Mitchell and the couple has a daughter,
Talyssa. She made the Dean’s List at SAU-Tech,
is an Americorp Vista volunteer and served as a
teacher aid at Fordyce High School, where she
was also a member of the Student Council, band,
FHA and Who’s Who Among American High School
Students.
- Garianne
and Suzanne Smith of Southeast Arkansas
Community College are the daughters of Gary Don
and Joyce Smith of Pine Bluff, Ark. Garianne is
a member of the Southeast Arkansas Fair Board,
the Jefferson County Fair Board and the
Jefferson County SOS Committee. Suzanne Smith is
a former Teen Pine Bluff Youth Ambassador, a
Teen South Arkansas Youth Ambassador, a 4-H
Ambassador and a 4-H Teen Star.
