Nancy Stephan Staff Writer Allison Pace won the title of Miss Monticello in a preliminary to the Miss Arkansas pageant held in Monticello March 5 at the Drew Central Auditorium. Pace took first place in Talent with her lyrical dance (a combination of jazz and ballet), the People’s Choice award, and Lifestyle and Fitness (bathing suit competition). Her Platform (interview), titled “Get Up and Dance,” focused on physical fitness and how it promotes self-esteem in our youth. In addition to receiving the official crown and official silver tray, Pace was awarded a one-year full scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Other awards included $350 in cash from the Miss Monticello Scholarship Organization, $100 savings bonds from both Commercial Bank and Simmons First National Bank, tanning visits from the Clip Joint, hair products from 971 Salon, $750 worth of matching wardrobe from Applause and Arlington Dress Shops, and several gift certificates.
A first-year student, Pace finds the field of nursing interesting. She currently
co-owns a dance studio, Monticello Dance Academy, where she teaches dance to
about 27 students. Pace plans to work on her dance and platform in the next few
months while preparing to enter the Miss Arkansas pageant June 22-25, which is
being held at the Hot Springs Summit Arena.
