Newell named GSC-West Coach of the Year

   After guiding the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils to an 18-10 record, head coach Mike Newell has been named the Gulf South Conference-West Division Coach of the Year.

   Newell is just the second UAM coach to win the honor, after leading the Weevils to their best season since 2000-01.

   "It's quite an honor to be named coach of the year," said Newell. "It's a credit to the players and student assistants, but I'd gladly trade (the honor) for being in the NCAA tournament."
