March 12-20 – March 12-13 – The baseball team will travel to Arkansas Tech for a series of games. The first game will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the final game will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Russellville, Arkansas. March 12-16 – Three chemistry faculty and five undergraduate students will travel to San Diego, Calif., to attend the national meeting of the American Chemical Society. March 13-14 – The softball team will be on the road in Memphis to face Christian Brothers. Games begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday and 2 p.m. on Monday. March 14-17- Library hours for spring break run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 16-19 – The Speech and Debate team will compete in the Pi Kappa Delta National Convention and Tournament in St. Louis. March 16 – The baseball team will travel to Livingston, Ala., for two seven-inning games against the University of West Alabama. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. March 19-20 – The softball team will host Arkansas Tech for a total of three games over the two-day period. The first game begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday. March 19-20 – The baseball team will host Henderson State University for three games over the two-day period. The first game is slated to begin at noon on Saturday. March 21-- "Blade Runner" will be shown in the Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. as the last film in the Arts & Humanities Film Series this semester. March 22 -- Chi Iota Sigma Easter Food Drive. Bring can food items to CIS division office in 101 Sorrells Hall. March 21 -- Sign-ups begin for dancing lessons and the Latin Dance Competition. March 21 -- A staged reading of "Wealth and How Not to Avoid It" starts at 6 p.m. Charlie Mehler, who wrote the lively musical adaptation of Bernard Shaw’s play "Major Barbara," will visit campus and direct the reading of the play, which describes an idealistic Salvation Army lass and her millionaire father who builds cannons. You don’t have to be able to sing or memorize to participate, just able to sit on stage and read from a script. The event will be filmed for posterity. The Alpha Chi Student Honorary conducts regular business meetings for members only during the activity period (12:40 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) on the second Tuesday of each month. The CIS club meets on the first Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. The Chess Club meets Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in room A-23 of the Science Center. Free lunch! Saxophone Needed – An employee with the UAM Cashiers Office needs to purchase a used saxophone for her sixth grader at Monticello Middle School. The Library will re-open Monday, March 14 until Thursday March 17 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Library will be closed Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 19. March 15 - Deadline for applications for the Arkansas Council for the Blind Scholarship. The Arkansas Council for the Blind announces a $1,000 scholarship opportunity. Applicants must be an Arkansas resident with medical documentation indicating the applicant is legally blind. The applicant must provide an autobiographical sketch of 800-1000 words and an official transcript. Additionally, the applicant will be required to provide three letters of recommendation. Applicants will be required to enroll as a fulltime student in fall 2005. Applications will be available in the UAM Office of Admissions located on the first floor of Harris Hall. March 18 - Arkansas Business Publishing Group Internship offers students, colleges a chance at prize money. ABPG of Little Rock is launching “The Publisher: The Ultimate Internship,” an eight-week program in which six Arkansas college students studying in all corners of the publishing world will work side by side with publishing professionals in their respective fields. At the end of the program, the students will present their team project to the ABPG staff. Based on the presentation and other criteria, ABPG will choose one student as “The Publisher.” The student will win $1,000; the student’s college department will receive $500. March 23 - Deadline to enroll for the Washington, D.C., Summer Field Study to be held May 14 until May 22. The trip will allow students to meet congressmen and women, tour Capital Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, several museums and various other locations of interest. Students will have an opportunity to receive three upper-level credit hours in either political science or criminal justice. The Office of Residence Life invites all persons interested in becoming a Resident Assistant to complete and return an application to 214 Harris Hall. Requirements include a minimum 2.50 grade point average after completing at least 30 credit hours. Applications may be obtained from the Office of Residence Life on the second floor of Harris Hall. The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) founded the AAEC/John Locher Memorial Award in 1986. The award was named in honor of the late son of Dick Locher, a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and artist for "Dick Tracy." The annual competition seeks outstanding student editorial cartoonists, ages 17 to 25, in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.Go to the AAEC/John Locher Web site and download an entry form. April 1 - Deadline for the Monticello PEO Chapter scholarship. Applicants must be female graduates of Monticello or Drew Central high schools who have completed 24 collegiate hours with a 2.5 GPA. April 13 – Deadline to apply for the Monticello Rotary Club Bond Achievement Scholarship for the 2005-06 academic year. This award is offered to one student in the amount of $500 for fall and $500 for spring, in honor of Clifton and Marjorie Mae Bond. Applicants must complete a scholarship application (available in the Office of Admissions on the first floor of Harris Hall); be a full-time UAM student, with a minimum 2.00 grade point average who's planning to attend full-time in the 2005-06 year; and provide a one-page explanation of why this scholarship is beneficial. Applications must be fully completed and returned to the Office of Admissions by 4:30 p.m. April 15 -- Deadline to apply for the Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism scholarship. Each year, the institute gives 10-20 awards totaling $200,000 a year to graduate students who intend to enter the news industry, as well as graduate students who plan to enter other journalism fields such as public relations, advertising, photojournalism and broadcast news. This new requirement adds diversity and fresh thinking from a variety of disciplines to the Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism. April 23 - Deadline for applications for the Arkansas Bankers Association Scholarship. The Young Banker Section of the Arkansas Bankers Association plans to award scholarships of up to $2,500 during the 2005-2006 academic year. Applicants must be an Arkansas resident majoring in banking, finance or business. Students must also plan to enter the banking profession after graduation. Applicants will be required to have completed a minimum of 75 hours by Dec. 31, 2004, and all applicants must possess a minimum 3.00 grade point average. The Arkansas High-Tech Scholarship programs plans to award 18
scholarships during the 2005-2006 school year. To be eligible for the $250 award per
semester, applicants must
complete the application, be an Arkansas resident and U.S. citizen,
and a full-time student with a 3.00 GPA. This
opportunity is for UAM-COT Crossett electromechanical technology and industrial
processing technology programs; and UAM CIS majors. The application is
provided by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Education and is available in
the Admissions office. Other program eligibility may be available.

The Fred
J. Taylor Library and Technology Center at the University of Arkansas at
Monticello now offers an electronic course reserve. The
electronic course reserve provides supplementary course materials by professors
for students and can be accessed through the library’s online catalog. Students
can access the course reserve anytime or anywhere with an Internet connection
and a web browser. Some of the supplementary course materials
may also require Adobe Acrobat Reader software. Only students
and faculty can access the course reserve. According to Tutoring
Services, there have been 980 visits to UAM Tutoring Labs this semester. Tutoring

The Financial
