Sarah Kirkpatrick Staff Writer The University of Arkansas - Monticello rodeo team will host its first intercollegiate rodeo March 31 through April 2 in Pine Bluff at Heston Stadium. Schools from the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association will be represented by 25 colleges from Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Louisiana with about 300 contestants. The money raised will go for facility improvements and travel scholarships. "I'm really excited about hosting our first rodeo," said rodeo team member Laura Kennedy. "I hope that we have a good turnout, and are able to raise a lot of money." March 31 is designated UAM night; students, faculty and staff can show their UAM ID and get in the rodeo for $5. Regular admission will be $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-12, and children under 5 will be admitted for free. "I think this will be a great opportunity for UAM and the town of Monticello to come out and support the rodeo team. Already the businesses of Monticello have shown great support by sponsoring the rodeo team," said Coach Jolyn Wells. "We chose Pine Bluff because of the great facilities. It is an indoor arena and we will be able to hold the rodeo rain or shine. I hope everyone will be able to come and see how great the UAM rodeo team really is."
