South Arkansas presents Pops concert

   The South Arkansas Chamber Singers Music Theater Workshop with conductor Kent Skinner and pianist Paul Becker presented the Fourth Annual Dinner Pops Concert Feb. 10 in the Gibson University Center Green Room.

   The evening began with a preview of the spring musical “Little Shop of Horrors,” which will be presented April 15 and 16 in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Skinner and his sister Diana Salesky performed selections from “The Music Man,” “A Little Night Music,” “ The Fantasticks,” “ The Sound of Music” and “The Roar of the Greasepaint the Smell of the Crowd” with Becker accompanying on piano. Several pieces from the music of P.D.Q. Bach followed.

   Janice Taylor presented the Janice A. Taylor Music Award to Cindy Stringfellow, a senior music major. Stringfellow belongs to the Concert Chamber Music Theater Workshop, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society.

   Featured singer Salesky graduated from Northern University of Colorado and received a master’s degree in voice from the University of Texas in Austin. She spent several years performing with the New York City Opera, and in various musicals in California, Texas, Colorado and New York.

   The Chamber Choir consists of University of Arkansas – Monticello students as well as, several members of the surrounding community.
