Bistro offers something new

Main Street Bistro offers an alternative type of entertainment to the community than what they are used to.

The evening begins with an informal, relaxed dinner. Menus vary and include an entree, soup, salad, bread and desert for the nominal fee of $5 per person. Entertainment includes a wide variety of local talent: Kathy Lyons with her array of Broadway hits which include "Phantom of the Opera" and perhaps a duet with local talent Ralph Haskew. The jazz and pop sounds of the Executive Decision, featuring Steve Trana, Gary Meggs, Chris Bayless and Frank Ferguson livens up the festivity, along with an assortment of rhythm and blues, and some bluegrass music. Ward Davis shared many of his country compositions, and Rex and Kathy Borchardt features their pop rock sounds. When it comes to music, the Main Street Bistro has something for everyone.

Main Street Bistro began as a mission outreach program for the First Presbyterian Church, located on North Main Street in Monticello. The Bistro brings in more and more patrons each time it’s presented.

“Although it is an outreach program, it isn’t 'churchy',” Ferguson said. “In fact, when Gary Marshall and his gang are there you can be sure there will be dancing.”

The Main Street Bistro audience is by no means limited to a mature segment. The group encourages college students to come and experience a smoke-free, alcohol-free environment and a listening-oriented venue presented in a positive way.

The program, presently offered once a quarter, will most likely occur more frequently as patrons and demand increases. This situation will have to be re-evaluated as time goes on. At some time in the future, a larger facility may be needed.

In the meantime, look for information about the next Main Street Bistro. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Cossey at or call the church office at 367-6883 about upcoming events.
