Brandon Hawkins Sports Editor The University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils (15-1, 7-1 GSC) faced the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (9-10, 2-6 GSC) Jan. 30. The Weevils looked to remain the sole holders of first place in the division and the Wonder Boys looked to end a six-game skid and get back to a .500 record. Tech took control of the game early in the first half with a score of 12-4. UAM tried to catch back up before half time but with Tech shooting 13-28 from the floor and UAM shooting 7 of 30, they just couldn’t do it and at the half the score was 30-18, Arkansas Tech. In the second half UAM came out with Benes Matkevicius knocking down a three-point shot and with some early turnovers and missed shots by Arkansas Tech, UAM closed the gap to one with a score of 36-35 with 11:58 left in the game. That would be as close as UAM would get, though. UAM’s Billy McDaniel led the Weevils with 14 points, but with Arkansas Tech’s Andrew Stanek making huge shot after huge shot, Arkansas Tech defeated UAM with a score of 64-55.
