The Cotton Blossoms, 9-8 (4-3), entered their Jan. 29 game against the Lady Tigers on a three-game skid, losing to Southern Arkansas, Central Arkansas and Christian Brothers. The Lady Tigers looked to improve on a 12-6 (3-4) record for the season. Both teams needed a win to help stay with the leaders of the Gulf South Conference.

The Blossoms started off doing everything right in the first half, making 16 of 39 shots from the field and also only making four turnovers. The Lady Tiger’s were 8 of 21 from the field and had nine turnovers. Even though Stephanie Grimes had 21 points for the Lady Tigers, the Blossoms went into the half with a 41-29 lead led by Teokea Wilkerson and Melissa Shorter, both with 8 points.

The second half was a different story however. The Blossoms shot 6 of 25 from the field and committed eight turnovers. The Lady Tigers came back into the second half shooting 11 of 25 from the field and also 12 of 19 from the free throw line. With less than a minute to go, Blossom TeAundra Harden committed a foul that sent OBU’s Grimes to the foul line and she tied the game, sending it into overtime.

Both teams remained tied even through the first overtime. Then in the second, Harden, who had four points in the first half and ended the night with 25, stepped up big for the Blossoms with clutch shots that allowed the Blossoms to grab the win with a score of 86-79.
