English honor society recruiting members

Students interested in joining UAM's Sigma Tau Delta, Omega Chi Cha Chapter of the National English Honor Society should attend a Sept. 9 meeting at 12:30 p.m. in MCB 115. The deadline to join is Sept. 23.

“Next week is our official week to begin recruitment so I hope everyone will look for posters and fliers that will be around campus,” President Jamie Sweeney said.

The chapter honors students in the English program. One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies, Sigma Tau Delta has over 600 active chapters, more than 900 faculty sponsors, and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually. Members have the opportunity to:

  • receive recognition for outstanding achievements
  • enrich their education
  • receive help in making career choices
  • advance their careers.
Certain requirements must be met before students are invited to join the honor society, including a 3.0 GPA in an English major or minor, and the completion of freshman Composition I, Composition II and World Literature. Once the requirements have been met, an official notice will be sent to the students inviting them to join.

Adviser Robert Moore is excited about all the new prospects for this fall.

“Students who participate in the club service activities will be honored in the spring at the Arts and Humanities Honors Ceremony," he said. "For seniors, there will be a special honor-cord to wear at graduation."
