Virtual Internship Assessment Reports Strategic Plans

The University of Arkansas at Monticello has developed a virtual internship program for students majoring in Computer Information Systems (CIS). The virtual internship allows students to work for a national company while maintaining their university attendance through the use of the Internet.

Above is one of the six workstations in the VIP Laboratory.

The students work in a new specially-equipped laboratory that was constructed with a grant from Dr. Kathy White of the Horizon Institute of Technology which is located at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, with matching funds provided by UAM. Dr. Dennis Travis, UAM's Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, worked with Dr. White to secure the start-up funding grant. Mr Bobby Hoyle, UAM's Director of Information Technology, directed the construction of the internship laboratory. Dr. James Roiger, UAM's Chair of the School of Computer Information Systems, is the Director of the Virtual Internship Program.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello joins Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia as a select group of Arkansas public universities who, working with the Horizon Institute of Technology, have taken a leadership role in providing students real-world work experience in information systems and technology beyond the borders of Arkansas by using that same technology.
