MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas
at Monticello volleyball team will host its
first ever “Dig for a Cure” this Saturday,
October 31 to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Dig for a Cure” is an event many colleges and
universities, among other organizations, have
done to raise awareness and funds for the Komen
Foundation. Other colleges in the state of
Arkansas to participate in the event are
Arkansas Tech, Harding, Henderson State and
Southern Arkansas.
UAM volleyball coach Nicole Smith and her staff
are currently asking those who wish to
participate to pledge a certain amount of money
per dig recorded in both of UAM’s home matches
on Saturday. Donations are also greatly
accepted.
“We encourage everyone to participate in this
event, regardless if you can be at the matches
or not,” said Smith. “This is such a great cause
and great way to get more involved in our
community.”
Additionally, Smith encourages those in
attendance to wear pink attire in support of the
cause. The Cotton Blossom players will be
wearing pink jerseys, donated by Miriam Kindred,
grandmother of senior Sara Kindred.
Saturday’s schedule begins with an 11 a.m. match
against Philander Smith, followed by a 1 p.m.
match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
