WEEVILS HIT ON ALL CYLINDERS IN 34-3 WIN OVER WEST GEORGIA

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team racked up a season high 552 yards of total offense in a 34-3 win over West Georgia Thursday evening in the Gulf South Conference TV Live Game of the Week.

 

All 34 points for the Weevils came in the first half, 22 of them coming in the second quarter. The Wolves scored their only points off a field goal with 5:02 left in the first quarter.

 

Junior quarterback Scott Buisson had his season high in passing yards after completing 23 of 36 passes for 349 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He added 40 yards on nine carries for 399 yards of total offense.

 

UAM balanced its offensive numbers with the first 100-yard rushing game by junior Johnny Polite since September 27 of last season. Polite had 17 carries for 127 yards, averaging out to 7.5 yards per carry. He also had five catches for 48 receiving yards.

 

UAM (3-4, 2-2 GSC) reached the scoreboard first with a 24-yard touchdown toss from Buisson to junior Jywin Ceaser with 10:53 left in the opening quarter, capping an eight-play, 89 yard drive using 4:07 off the clock.

 

Buisson struck again with 6:51 left in the first with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jaleel Harris, capping an eight-play, 81-yard drive using 2:36 off the clock.

 

UWG (0-6, 0-4 GSC) answered with its only score of the night, a 30-yard field goal by Adi Brkic with 5:02 remaining in the first to give UAM a 12-3 lead.

 

UAM responded with 22 unanswered points to close out the half, started with Harris’ second touchdown catch off the night from Buisson, this time from 33 yards.

 

Senior back-up quarterback Casey Cathcart rushed for his first touchdown of the season with 4:17 left in the half, followed by a two-point conversion rush by Buisson to give the Weevils a 27-3 lead.

 

Buisson hooked up with junior Joseph Lockwood for 15 yards with 2:47 left in the half to close out the game’s scoring.

 

UAM has its first Saturday off this season before traveling to West Alabama next Saturday, October 17 for a 6 p.m. start in Livingston, Ala.
