The
University
of
Arkansas
at
Monticello
football
team was
held to
only 216
yards of
total
offense
in a
33-0
loss to
West
Alabama
Saturday,
marking
the
first
time the
program
has been
held
scoreless
since
the end
of the
2006
season.
West
Alabama
scored
seven
points
in the
first
quarter,
three in
the
second,
three in
the
third
and 20
in the
fourth
to earn
its
fifth
win of
the
season.
The
Tigers
improve
to 5-3
overall
and 3-2
in the
Gulf
South
Conference.
UAM was
held to
107
rushing
yards
and 109
passing
yards to
drop its
overall
season
record
to 3-5
and 2-3
in the
GSC.
The
first
score
for the
Tigers
came
with
9:55
left in
the
opening
quarter,
a
four-yard
touchdown
pass
from
Deon
Williams
to Jason
Hawkins
to cap
an
11-play,
68-yard
drive
that
used
5:05 off
the
clock.
The next
two
scores
came by
way of
field
goal
kicker
Brock
Sharp.
He
nailed a
24-yarder
with
5:25
left in
the
second
quarter
and a
44-yarder
with
8:46
left in
the
third.
UWA led
13-0
heading
into the
fourth
and
final
quarter.
UWA’s
Dameon
Baylor
gave the
Tigers
their
next
touchdown
with a
four-yard
scamper
with
11:23
left in
regulation,
capping
a
14-play,
95-yard
drive
that
used
5:23 off
the
clock.
Brock
Sharp’s
extra-point
attempt
was wide
left,
giving
the
Tigers a
19-0
lead.
On the
ensuing
UAM
possession,
the Boll
Weevils
drove
all the
way to
the UWA
two-yard
line
where
the team
had
first
and
goal,
but
junior
quarterback
Scott
Buisson
was
forced
to throw
a pass
under
extreme
pressure
that was
intercepted
by UWA’s
Shontral
Ford,
who
proceeded
to
return
the pick
for a
99-yard
touchdown.
Sharp
added
the
extra
point to
give UWA
a 26-0
lead
with
7:10
left in
the
game.
After
forcing
UAM
sophomore
Derek
Jambon
to punt
for the
sixth
time of
the
game,
the
Tigers
put an
exclamation
point to
their
win with
an
89-yard
scoring
drive in
just
under
three
minutes,
capped
by a
three-yard
touchdown
run by
Deon
Williams.
Sharp
added
the
extra
point to
give UWA
its
final
33-0
advantage.
Buisson
was 17
of 31
through
the air
for 109
yards
with one
interception.
He also
led the
Weevils
with 18
carries
for 44
yards.
Junior
Johnny
Polite
added
eight
carries
for 34
yards
and five
catches
for five
yards.
Junior
Jywin
Ceaser
led the
receivers
with six
catches
for 59
yards.
The Boll
Weevils
continue
GSC play
next
Saturday,
October
24 when
the team
welcomes
Harding
for the
2009
edition
of
Homecoming.
