CONVOY LESLIE-COTTON BOLL STADIUM BACK IN OPERATION
September 28, 2009
Contact: Brian Ramsey, Sports Information Director

MONTICELLO –
Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium and Steelman Field House are both back in full operation after more than a week of being shut down due to concerns about a design flaw of the stadium’s light poles.

The light poles were diagnosed on September 17 to have fatigue related cracks in each of the four base plates, forcing the stadium and field house to be closed due to safety concerns.

Since becoming aware of the flaw, UAM had 16 steel gussets installed around each base plate to reinforce the stability of the poles.

This morning, the light poles were inspected and approved, therefore giving UAM full use of its facilities and roadways around the stadium.

Saturday’s home football game against No. 14 Ouachita Baptist will be played as scheduled. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Cotton Boll Stadium.

The next home volleyball match inside Steelman Field House is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. against Harding.
