MARC MACMILLAN
Assistant Baseball Coach
Recruiting Coordinator
Marc MacMillan is in his first season as an
assistant coach at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Coach
MacMillan will oversee the pitching staff and coordinate the Boll
Weevils recruiting efforts while at the same time assist the head coach
with day-to-day operations of the baseball program.
Before
joining the Boll Weevils staff, MacMillan served as the Head Baseball
Coach at Crichton College (NAIA) in Memphis, TN. Prior to the beginning
of the 2009 season, Crichton announced the necessity to do away with all
its athletic teams beginning in the fall of 2010. Despite the news,
MacMillan led the Comets to a 23-23 overall record in its final year
including wins over Gulf South Conference members Christian Brothers
University and Harding University. MacMillan oversaw a pitching staff
that finished in the Top 25% or better (out of 212 teams) in opponents
batting average, batters struck out per game, and number of hits per
game.
Before
taking over the head duties at Crichton College, MacMillan spent just
over eight years as Head Baseball Coach at Memphis University School (MUS)
in Memphis, TN. During his tenure, MacMillan led his squad to the most
successful season in school history finishing as state semi-finalists in
2006. As well, a number of MacMillan’s players went on to play college
baseball at schools including Baylor University, the University of
Mississippi, the University of Virginia, Christian Brothers University,
and Rhodes College.
MacMillan
was also responsible for recruiting and coaching the Tennessee Baseball
Coaches Association’s (TBCA) Team Tennessee squads from 2004-2006 that
participated in the prestigious sophomore and junior Sunbelt Series
Tournaments held annually in Oklahoma. The teams put together by
MacMillan were the tournament champions twice and runner-up once while
playing against top tier competition from Arizona, California, Georgia,
Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Canada. Ten players
recruited by MacMillan to play for Team Tennessee have been selected in
the MLB draft with seven out of those 10 being pitchers.
While two
players signed football scholarships and one player went directly to
professional baseball after being drafted in the first round, 39 of 42
went on to play college baseball at schools such as Vanderbilt
University, the University of Virginia, the University of Tennessee, the
University of North Carolina, the University of Mississippi, the
University of Memphis, the University of Louisville, and the University
of Kentucky to name a few.
Additionally, MacMillan has served as an Associate Scout for the Seattle
Mariners, and this past summer, he managed the 18U APAK All-Stars out of
Memphis, TN to an overall record of 31-5, closing out the summer on a
19-game win streak. Seven players from APAK signed baseball scholarships
including one who was selected in the 21st round of the MLB
draft.
As a
player, MacMillan fielded multiple positions during his four years at
the University of Mississippi while receiving a bachelor’s degree in
managerial finance. The highlight of MacMillan’s Ole Miss career was
batting .428 in the 1995 NCAA Regional Tournament in Tallahassee, FL.
A native
of Memphis, TN, MacMillan attended Memphis University School where he
was named All-State in both baseball and football along with being
selected as the 1991 Mr. Football for Class AA and the 1992 winner of
the Commercial Appeal’s “Best of Preps” AA Male Athlete of the Year. |
